The Dubai Ferry has now been running in the Emirate for a number of years and is popular with tourists mainly as it allows visitors to see the sights of Dubai from the water.

If you take the ferry between Al Ghubaiba and Dubai Marina then you will get a great view of the coastline and the Palm Island.  It is a leisurely trip along the coast that is great just to see the sights from the sea.

The RTA is constantly updating and reassessing the needs of its marine transport system and the Dubai Ferry is being frequently improved and expanded.

Since 2009 Dubai has built up its public transport network including the opening of the Dubai Metro and the Dubai Tram. It now transports millions of passengers each year.

In most countries the term ‘ferry’ would imply a boat that takes you from one place to another for more of a public transport purpose. However, although the Dubai Ferry is run by the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority), the Ferry is more of a tourist trip as many of the trips that are run on the Dubai Ferry, start at one of the ferry stations, tour round areas of local interest, and return to the same station, with each trip lasting for an hour to 90 minutes.

Dubai FerryAdded to the circular and commuter routes, there are routes that go from one port to another to enable people to get a good view of the shoreline and the canal within Dubai.

There are a number of stations served by the Dubai Ferry at either end of Dubai in Al Ghubaiba, Dubai Marina and although there were also some stations running through the Dubai Water Canal, these have stopped for now.

The ferry runs multiple times a day from each location, for a duration of 60-90 minutes (frequency and times may change so check out the routes page for more info) and the boats are designed for comfort with a snack bar on board and facilities for two classes of passenger as well as two spots for those in wheelchairs.

There are tickets available for gold class and silver class passengers just like on the Dubai Metro, so you can choose your level of comfort. As the ferries are very new they are also very modern and stylish.

The Dubai ferry was opened in 2011 and each boat can take up to 100 passengers. Although it is scheduled to run at certain times, the round trips will only run if there are a minimum of 10 passengers on each trip. (One way trips will run however many people are on them).

The boats can also be hired for private use from the RTA on hourly rental charter packages either with or without seats installed. Contact the RTA on 800 9090 for more info (this site is not run by the RTA but provides information for those who want to use the Dubai Ferry.)

The Dubai Ferry can be a great option for tourists as it enables them to see the city from the sea and get a view of some of the most popular parts of Dubai including the Burj al Arab and the Palm Jumeirah at a great price. Other options for this kind of tourist trip exist but are usually much more expensive so it is worth taking a trip on the Ferry if you are on holiday in Dubai.

Before asking any questions using the form below, it would be appreciated if you could check all of the information on this site first, in particular the Frequently Asked Questions page. Probably 90% of the questions asked request information that is already posted on the site 🙂

  1. Hi, we are gouing to Dubai from Japan at the end of this year. On Jan, 2015, do you operate ferry from Dubai Marina?
According to HP, usual feerry does not sail out from Dubai Marina to Al Ghubaiba on Friday. Do you operate sightseeing ferry from Dubai Marina? If so, what time does ferry depart from Dubai Marina?

    1. Hi yes there are sightseeing trips running from the Marina on a Friday but as the schedules keep changing it is best to check with the RTA when you arrive in Dubai (800 9090)

    1. Thank you Luis. I would expect the price if this ticket to be the same as the others as there has been no announcement of a change. However if anyone has any other information please feel free to post.

    1. The Dubai Ferry just runs within Dubai and not to Iran, you will need to seek other transportation services for this request.

  12. Hi,
My husband and I are planning on doing a ferry trip starting at the Marina on our upcoming vacation around March 28. I am totally confused about the ferry routes and departure times. I read somewhere that the routes and times changed and would like to find out the new departure times in the afternoon for a round trip Marina ferry ride that allows views of Atlantis.
    Thanks for your help
    Petra

  13. I really liked the boat when I took the trip at the Burj Khalifa. Do you know who manufactures the boats?

    Thanks.

    1. Do you really mean the Burj Khalifa? i’m not sure there are many boat trips from there 😉 Having said that I have no idea who manufactures any of the boats…

  14. Hi again!
Just hoping you could give me a general idea of passenger traffic recently and looking forward a few weeks. Of course you can’t guarantee a departure, but have most of them run with more than the required minimum lately? I’m primarily interested in the 9am, hate to make my way from Bur Dubai just to find out that that was the least popular and hardly ever runs,or perhaps it was the most popular and make sure one gets there early! Thanks, this helps in planning our sightseeing!

    1. Hi Amelie, sorry but I don’t work for the RTA so cannot comment on passenger numbers. I think the ferry service is getting more popular so I don’t expect that many sailings are cancelled, particularly when the weather is good but I can’t confirm this.

    1. Hi Amelie, gold class tickets give you access to the front of the boat where you can get a better view and better photo opportunities 🙂

  15. I would just like to inquire regarding the offer from my Go for it Gold Emirates NBD Credit card if there is a free ride from your Dubai Ferry, whichnI can take one guest with me.

  16. Can someone guide me on where is the exact location of the Ghubaiba Ferry station?
I am planning a group trip, can I buy tickets one day in advance to be on a safer side?

    1. Hi Varinder, sorry for the delay in replying. I haven’t been to the Al Ghubaiba station sorry, but check out the map on the routes page and this may help you. If you are looking to do a group trip it may well be worth contacting the RTA regarding a private charter if there are enough of you, otherwise just get there in good time and you should be OK. Many people turn up at the last minute but usually the boats are not completely full unless it is a public holiday or something so maybe choose a quieter time.

    1. Hi Dana, if you are looking for a job with the Dubai Ferry then you will need to contact the RTA to see if they have any vacancies. Their number is 800 9090.

    1. Hi Jessica, no this is not an official site. The RTA don’t seem to have one so I set this up. Yes you can pay for your tickets using a credit card.
